Better Than The Original

Susan Faludi's  The Terror Dream has inspired an an astonishingly vigorous piece of writing on John Leonard's part in the New York Times Book Review. Morphing  Harper's Index to into a book review is   mighty hard work, but the only question this tour de force leves in my mind  is whether any book could sustain for half as many pages the sheer incandescence of his first 800  words.
